Dear Members,

It was with a sense of excitement that we re-opened Chill Zone in mid December. As you can see from the pictures below, the Chill Zone is modern, comfortable and is complemented well with the funky urban style of The Yard, which is our teenage lounge area. This has been enjoyed by teenagers and a few parents, too.

I would like to thank you for your patience and understanding during the renovation period and trust that you and your family enjoy the new facility.

We are still on track to launch the much anticipated Kids on 8 facilities. It is coming to life and we look forward to opening the doors in the near future. Having seen some of the features such as the Train and Pirate Ship up close already, I am very excited and I am sure you will enjoy this unique play Club experience.

We introduced Rugby 4 kids again in late December. This is a new and exciting sports programme specifically designed to introduce kids to the basic skills of rugby – passing, kicking, catching and try-scoring incorporated in developing the basics skills of all sports: running, jumping, coordination, balance, spatial awareness, teamwork, friendship and sharing.

And finally the Gateway Book Club is a programme that before a book is even opened, its author and their background have been discussed, the reasons why the book might have been written will have been investigated and while we are reading, every location, situation, character, possibility and eventuality will have come under the microscope. Everything will be understood and nothing will be missed, and all done in a fun way.

For registration and enquiries, please call the Activities Team on 2814 5403 or email activities@aberdeenmarinaclub.com.

I look forward to welcoming you in and around the Club!

Healthy Regards,
Derek

As the school term finally broke up for the summer break, it could mean only one thing at the Club – Summer Camps!

This year we offered some of our regular and popular camps such as Swimming and Tennis. These have again proved to be very well attended, and I’d like to thank the coaches as well as the participants for making them such fun. We also embarked on some new and interesting activities for this summer program and I am pleased to say that our Chess Academy as well as Science & Technology themed Astro Camp was very well received, and are activities that we will certainly do again in the future.

Please see some pictures below.

Swim Camp – Tropical Pool. C’mon guys, kick your legs!’

Tennis Camp, where learning to make proper contact with the ball, correctly identifying strokes and grips for particular shots was the focus . . . and fun!

The Astro Camp with inflatable Space Dome allowed our junior astronomers and explorers to learn about the constellations, make a comet and build their own telescope. Studying rocket flight and creating alien life forms certainly made for an out-of-this-world experience. Space-age face painting was also a big hit.

From the Sports for Fun Camp, a host of various activities, such as Basketball, Rhythmic Gymnastics, Football, Obstacle Games, Badminton and Rugby to name a few were introduced and enjoyed by all.

The Chess Academy helps to build children’s character through the learning of international chess. It was very encouraging to see so many youngsters interested in a where they learn to use their minds, improving their attention span as well as their sportsmanship.

There were also some Arts and Crafts classes where the children could decorate their own 12:1 doll house cake shop with various styles of clay cakes and breads.

There are still activities and camps available throughout August and we look forward to you joining in the fun.

Please contact our Activities Team on 2814 5403 or email activities@aberdeenmarinaclub.com for further information.

Healthy regards,

Derek
Director of Sports & Recreation

Dear Members,

We have been hosting a series of exciting and unique events during the month of June, some featuring renowned Chefs from all over the world.

On Friday June 10, Chef Eric Barbe – of the well-known truffle restaurant Bruno in the South of France – prepared a tasty four-course menu for black truffle lovers. The menu was paired with distinguished rosé wines from Château d’Esclans, including the remarkable Garrus 2008. I was very happy to see all Members enjoying themselves and that some even requested to park their cars at the Club overnight after sampling some fine wines.

On that same evening, at the Tropical Poolside “Family, Food & Friends” barbecue, the Australian celebrity chef and writer Kate Lamont introduced the best of her cuisine served with Australian Cape Mentelle wines.

Then, Sichuan Province was celebrated at Horizon restaurant from June 6 to 15 with two Chefs from our sister property, the Shangri-La Hotel, Chengdu. The restaurant’s bookings were full every day and many Members were delighted by the best of Sichuan specialities such as the stir-fried chicken with dried chili and Sichuan peppercorn and the marinated black fungus with chili and sweetened black vinegar sauce.

On June 15 and 16, Caffé Luna was visited by Italy’s “King of Pasta”, Vincenzo Spinosi, who introduced his special Pasta creations made with his own trademark Spinosi Pasta. The popularity of this enchanting evening has reinforced our wish to regularly promote the best of Italy at Caffé Luna.

To end, please allow me to recommend a visit to The Deck from June 24 to 28 to taste Morocco’s refined and diverse dishes prepared by our Guest Chef Mourad Noufel from Shangri-La Dubai.

Looking forward to welcoming you again at the Club,

Matthias
Executive Assistant Manager – F&B
