As the school term finally broke up for the summer break, it could mean only one thing at the Club – Summer Camps!

This year we offered some of our regular and popular camps such as Swimming and Tennis. These have again proved to be very well attended, and I’d like to thank the coaches as well as the participants for making them such fun. We also embarked on some new and interesting activities for this summer program and I am pleased to say that our Chess Academy as well as Science & Technology themed Astro Camp was very well received, and are activities that we will certainly do again in the future.

Please see some pictures below.

Swim Camp – Tropical Pool. C’mon guys, kick your legs!’

Tennis Camp, where learning to make proper contact with the ball, correctly identifying strokes and grips for particular shots was the focus . . . and fun!

The Astro Camp with inflatable Space Dome allowed our junior astronomers and explorers to learn about the constellations, make a comet and build their own telescope. Studying rocket flight and creating alien life forms certainly made for an out-of-this-world experience. Space-age face painting was also a big hit.

From the Sports for Fun Camp, a host of various activities, such as Basketball, Rhythmic Gymnastics, Football, Obstacle Games, Badminton and Rugby to name a few were introduced and enjoyed by all.

The Chess Academy helps to build children’s character through the learning of international chess. It was very encouraging to see so many youngsters interested in a where they learn to use their minds, improving their attention span as well as their sportsmanship.

There were also some Arts and Crafts classes where the children could decorate their own 12:1 doll house cake shop with various styles of clay cakes and breads.

There are still activities and camps available throughout August and we look forward to you joining in the fun.

Please contact our Activities Team on 2814 5403 or email activities@aberdeenmarinaclub.com for further information.

We will start construction of our new our Play Area in the next month. Our concept was to turn the area into a ‘park’ with more seating areas. Taylor Made Play, who built the Adventure Zone play modules, is building the equipment. Below are some photos of the equipment being manufactured in the UK.

We will also be adding a state-of-the-art synthetic grass as the surface. Below is a sample photo of the grass installed in a high-end nursery in Hong Kong. The planned completion date is the second week in January. We look forward to seeing children running and playing in their new ‘park’.

Stay well,

Dear Members,

Last weekend we held the Annual Swimming Gala. We had children competing who ranged in age from four to 14 years old, and they were joined in the pool by some parents at the end of the day for some fun parent/child relay events.

There were just over 100 competitors and 74 events. My congratulations go out to everyone who took part. It was great to see all the children competing in the right spirit!

I would also like to offer a big thank you to the staff of the Club and to Harry Wright International, who arranged the event. Their hard work ensured that a great day was had by all and that the atmosphere by the pool was very enjoyable.

See you at the Club soon,
Andrew

Dear Members

This month I have prepared a special series of Halloween-related IT programmes for younger members.

First of all, the ever-popular class for children, Comic Life. Kids can create imaginative layouts with fiendish photos to scare their friends. Another favourite is iMovie, which allows them to turn their Halloween home-movie clips into a spooky and spectacular horror show.

I am frequently asked about how to use the iPhone or iPad more effectively, and how parents can monitor their children’s web usage. At the IT Centre we can help with these and any other IT-related issues.

We will also soon be introducing some of the latest IT accessories. Watch this space for further news and updates.

Should you have any questions, please drop by the IT Centre, or give me a call on 2814 5464.

Best regards

Gavin

Dear Members,

Welcome back!

It’s is great to see all the regular faces back in the Club after the summer break.

We were busy over the summer with the renovation of the Adventure Zone. We added 19 new modules that equate to 30% more play equipment. We also added some much needed seating for the adults. Make sure you bring the kids in to try it out. The feedback so far has been very positive.

See you soon in the Club.
