Ceramics Workshops

10.30am – 12.30pm
7/F Activities Studio
Session 1 – Thursday, May 28
Session 2 – Friday, May 29
$350 per person
Adult Members only due to limited space.

Come and make a pair of sake cups from scratch for your loved ones. Through the pottery hand-building technique of pinching (without using a pottery wheel), you will experience a deeply aesthetic process that blends functionality with artistry – an act of creation that turns simple materials into personal, ritualistic objects designed to enhance the sensory experience of sake drinking.

Handmade cups embody the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi, which finds beauty in imperfection and simplicity. Participants will create a pair of unique ochoko (traditional small cups holding around 90ml). The texture of the clay slips and glaze bring depth and variation onto a small object, while providing a rustic or refined tactile pleasure that enhances the drinking experience.

Using a cup that you have made, or gifting one to a loved one, creates a personal, enduring connection.

After the workshop, your cups will be returned to the studio to be professionally glazed and will be ready for collection in around two weeks. The Membership Office will contact you once the cups are ready.

Cancellations must be received no later than Thursday, May 21 or the full fee will be charged.
