Renaudin-Bollinger & Cie was founded in 1829 by the nobleman Athanase de Villermont, the German wine-trade businessman Joseph Bollinger and the Champenois Paul Renaudin. Joseph Bollinger married Louise-Charlotte, daughter of Athanase, in 1837 and the house has since been inherited and led by descendants of the Bollinger family. 
The house has a historical relationship with British royal family and the James Bond franchise, the latter dating back to the 1956 novel Diamonds are Forever, which describes Bollinger as the favourite of the secret agent. Since then it has appeared in the movies many times, continuing the heritage and the legendary Bollinger name.
